THETA Poker Enhancements and Bug Status List
Known Bugs
- A pot that has both a split pot and side pot (in either order) can cause chips to be lost, which ultimately means that you can't win the tournament (since you don't have all the chips ;-). A temporary workaround has been added to version 1.7.1 to allow you to win the tournament, but the original chip leakage has not been fixed yet. If you ever see this problem and are able to determine which hand caused the problem, please e-mail the hand history for that hand to bugs@thetapoker.com. Your help will be invaluable as this appears to be an very rare occurence.
- In Large Numbers mode, the large numbers can sometimes shrink (possibly because of a low-memory condition). Just exit THETA Poker and return to restore them.
Solved in Version 1.9.6 - 08/16/10
- FIXED: iOS 4.0 Backgrounding - THETA Poker now saves its state whenever it is sent to the background. This prevents rolling back to the previously saved state when the app is killed explicitly or by a device reboot.
Solved in Version 1.9.4 - 06/15/10
- FIXED: Custom Starting Stacks - Fixed a bug that could cause a hang or crash when combining a small Custom Starting Stack and the Smallest blind size. This problem was introduced in version 1.9.3.
Solved in Version 1.9.3 (04/08/10)
- FIXED: Blind Schedules - Fixed problem when using largest starting stack sizes and very large shootouts (small and large blinds would become tiny or crash the game).
- FIXED: Player Ranking - Fixed incorrect player ranking, which could be one too low under rare circumstances.
- FIXED: Landscape Menu Popups - Fixed landscape Custom Tournament Size, Starting Stack, and Blind Increases (both Hand Count and Time Limit). Pinned all of these popup windows to the upper right to be consistent rather than having them move around with the "Bet Window" customization option.
Solved in Version 1.9.2 (01/21/10)
- FIXED: Custom Stack Size - Fixed this option, broken in version 1.9.1 (would either leave random stack size or possibly crash).
Solved in Version 1.9.0 (12/11/09)
- FIXED: Landscape E-mail had sometimes popped up sideways and only partly.
- FIXED: "Raises to..." is now the total amount so far on that street instead of just the last two bets both on the screen and in the hand history.
- FIXED: Unintentional Unpause has been removed at the end of a hand after going to hand history despite having "Pause After Hand" set.
- FIXED: Duplicate Blinds/Button Announcement has been removed from the hand history when the "Announce Blinds" option is set.
- FIXED: Four of a Kind split pot was fixed when there were matching 4-of-a-kinds w/ kicker and pair (pair was being used instead of kicker).
Solved in Version 1.8.0 (10/31/09)
- FIXED: Version 1.7.0 may crash under iPhone OS 2.x on startup in some cases (from a workaround to stop the year from being a link for iPhone OS 3.x). This has been fixed in version 1.8.0.
Solved in Version 1.7.0 (8/25/09)
- FIXED: Version 1.6.0 may crash in certain low memory conditions. This has been fixed in version 1.7.0.
Solved in Version 1.5.1 (6/27/09)
- FIXED: Games that were interrupted by phone calls might not be continuable upon return. This was broken in version 1.5.0.
Solved in Version 1.4.0 (5/3/09)
- FIXED: Cards could disappear if you exited the game while they are being dealt immediately after players have joined the table when you've busted everyone else out. Alternatively, the current game could be prematurely ended (you would see the Quick Help screen on startup).
- FIXED: Distribution of player styles wasn't being initialized in some (possibly most) cases (broken in version 1.3.0?), causing all players to be tight and passive.
Solved in Version 1.3.0 (4/16/09)
- FIXED: Another problem with being awarded second place or lower when actually winning a tournament. This was caused by a bug in the chipping up algorithm.
Solved in Version 1.2.0 (3/16/09)
- FIXED: Problem with being awarded second place or lower when actually winning a tournament. This was caused by the loss of chips on a previous hand (possibly from a bug related to the next [below] bug). Thanks for the screenshot!
- FIXED: "Unknown error" if big blind was too short on chips to post the entire big blind and everyone folded to the big blind.
- FIXED: Names of opponents who have joined the table after the start of a game would change (back to the seats' previous occupants') after exiting the program and returning.
- FIXED: Rare problem where too many chips could end up at the table if players joining the table all had less than a big blind worth of chips.
- FIXED: Incorrect ante display in the game information popup after exiting the app and returning while on the Game Over screen.
Solved in Version 1.1.3 (1/29/09)
- Fixed smallest chip and chipping up (exchanging smaller chips for larger ones) as the blinds and antes go up. This was broken in version 1.1.2, where the smallest chip was always $1 (or something too small).
- Fixed bug where a pot between an all-in winner and multiple side winners could be split incorrectly (was looping paying off just one of the split winners).
Apple Issues
Please update to iPhone OS 2.2 or newer to avoid the following problems:
- Memory leaks will eventually cause THETA Poker to crash if you use it long enough while your device continues to check for mail or other push notifications in the background. You can exit and return to THETA Poker at least once every few hours to avoid this problem, but updating the OS is better.
- Please see the THETA Poker Frequently Asked Questions List for information on crashes that may be occur on if you are running an iPhone OS older than version 2.1 (THETA Poker 1.1 no longer supports iPhone OS 2.0).
Planned Enhancements
Planned for Version 2.0.0
- Progressive Skill Level and Starting Stacks - Some sort of "win your way to the World Series of Poker" mode.
Planned for THETA Poker Pro
- Pro Skill Level - A fifth skill level to really put you to the test. If you can beat this level, you're a very good player.
- Full iPad Support - THETA Poker will work fine on an iPad either in normal (320x480 or 480x320) or expanded (640x960 or 960x640) modes, but the Pro version will fill the entire screen (768x1024 or 1024x768) and will implement iPad-native controls where possible.
- Mailing Complete Hand Histories - Options to e-mail all or a selected subset of the hand history files from a single game.
- Extended Hand History Compatibility - Options will be provided to output hand histories compatible with Poker Copilot 2 and FlopZoom on Macs and Poker Tracker on PCs.
Under Consideration for Future Releases
- THETA Poker Pointers - An optional pop-up instructional tip upon startup (also available from the Help menu).
- Save/Load Options Configurations - Save off your favorite set of Settings for quick changing.
- More Tutor Advice - Expanded tutoring screens, geared toward beginners.
- Customized Playing Card Designs - Select any picture from your Photo Roll to use as the playing card back.
- Pot-Limit variation - Maximum bet allowed is the amount in the pot.
- Limit variation - Maximum bet allowed is fixed by round.
Your recommendations are always welcome!
Not Planned
- User-customizable blinds/antes schedules - Too complicated to implement and use
- Omaha - It's not out of the question that I'll write an Omaha game, but it would be a separate app.

- Custom Starting Stack - Starting stack can now be set to any whole dollar amount from $1,000 to $100,000.

- "Confirm Tap to Call" customization setting - Allows you to enable or disable a confirmation dialog when tapping on your cards to call.

Version 1.1.2
- Drag Rectangle Customization setting added. If set to On (default), the target area for dragging your cards or chips is visible at all times; if set to Off, the target area is invisible until it is highlighted (see Settings->Customization->Drag Rectangle).
- Fixed bug where you would finish in third place instead of first place if a tournament ended with your two remaining opponents busting out on the same hand. Sorry about that!
- Fixed problem where blinds would stop escalating too soon. The blinds now stop when the players in a heads-up situation would have an average M of 5.
- Fixed bug where players unable to post the entire ante would not get dealt cards but would still be alive.
Version 1.1.1
- When antes are being used, reaching the 200/400 blind level can produce crashes or error messages ("Unknown error. Please start new game"). This problem is fixed in version 1.1.1, to be submitted to Apple shortly.
- If THETA Poker is exited while a split pot is being given out, returning to the game can cause all statistics and the current game to be wiped out. This problem is fixed in version 1.1.1, to be submitted to Apple shortly.
Version 1.1.0
- Improved graphics - Professionally drawn artwork.
- Infrequently, the large "F O L D", "C H E C K" or other message on the screen may hang until you tap again. This is unfortunately an Apple bug that also appears in both Vexed and Aurora Feint, but a workaround has been added to THETA Poker Version 1.1.0.
- The user's face-down playing cards are cut off on the bottom of the screen if you rotate your device while the cards are being dealt. Fixed in Version 1.1.0.
- THETA Poker can get into an infinite loop in some very specific circumstances with antes, multiple players all-in, a side pot, and a split pot (the screen will flash a message about a player winning $0). Fixed in Version 1.1.0 (until then you need to start a new game, sorry).
- Statistics could credit you with more wins than you've actually had. Fixed in Version 1.1.0.
